In 1992, after working as district manager for a large emergency ambulance service, Dan L. Henderlight recognized the growing need for a non emergency transportation company to serve the greater Knoxville area.  This company would focus its efforts on professional, courteous and timely non emergency ambulance transportations, while respecting both its patients and its employees.  Up until this time non emergency transports were often difficult to schedule with no dedicated service to run them.  In the years since, Professional Medical Transport (Pro-Med) has increased both its coverage area and its fleet.  What began as a one truck operation in Knox County is now a 50 truck operation reaching into Middle and West Tennessee.  As Pro-Med changed so did its services which now include emergency transportation, wheelchair transportation and standby medical care for special events. 

Pro-Med offers a wide range of services including Emergency and Non-Emergency Medical Transportation to and from any healthcare facility. We also offer wheelchair transportation and stand-by medical care for special events.

Our available staff is comprised of EMT’S, Paramedic’s, Critical Care Paramedic’s, Nurses, and Respiratory Therapists to handle various patient needs for in and out of town transports.

Our Dispatch Staff have recently completed a nationally recognized Emergency Medical Dispatch program to more efficiently expedite your request for emergency transportation if an emergency should arise.

Our fleet of ambulances include 62 units which can be equipped for Advanced or Basic Life Support. Our service area includes Knox and surrounding counties in East Tennessee, and Humphreys County, along with a Middle Tennessee provider base which extends to Shelby County. We also cover multiple special events within the Nashville service area in conjunction with a large hospital base organization. We also are proud to announce the purchase of a new Wheelchair Van to serve our growing customer base for those patients who do not meet medical necessity for ambulance transport and private pay customers.
